Seeking Meth Help

By: Shauna Racioppi

Methamphetamine is one of the most addictive drugs out there. It comes in many forms and can be made by ingredients found at your local drug store according to the Web site www.methresources.gov. homemade

A spokesperson for the Web site who only wished to be identified by his first name, Sincere, said meth users can suffer serious consequences.

“Meth is an extremely addictive drug and users will grow a dependency to it,” Sincere said.

He said that if you or a family member or friend have a meth addiction it is vital to seek help as soon as possible.

“You have to let them know that there is hope,” Sincere said. “If someone is addicted to meth you need to get them help immediately.”

Sincere said that you have to approach the person in a non confrontational way when you suggest to them that they get help.

"You don’t want them to feel like they are being attacked,” Sincere said. “If you approach them in a threatening way then they will get defensive and refuse any help, you have to approach the situation very carefully.”

Many times it is hard for Meth addicts to even acknowledge the fact that they have a problem he said.

“You have to let them know that this is a very serious problem,” Sincere said.

Instead of focusing on their addiction Sincere suggested that all the focus should be towards the positive and that the addict can get better.

“Let them know that there is help out there and that there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Sincere said that meth users are stuck in a dark place and feel hopeless.

“It’s important to let them know that they can get better,” he said.

The Web site www.methresources.gov offers ways people can seek help for their drug addiction. Sincere said that people can call the helpline and speak to representatives like him who can help guide users in the right direction.

Sincere said that there is even assistance for people who do not have insurance.

“You can get state funding and all of your expenses will be paid for,” Sincere said.

According to the Web site www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov meth could cause people to become violent.

“Long-term methamphetamine abuse can cause addiction, anxiety, insomnia, mood disturbances, and violent behavior. Additionally, psychotic symptoms such as paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions.”

Sincere said that physical symptoms may occur as well.

“Users might get red sores on their face,” Sincere said. “They look like blemishes but tend to be a bit bigger.”Meth face

Sincere said that if you have a friend who is a meth addict and they smoke around you then you can be just as affected as the user.

"Second hand meth smoke is just as harmful as the person smoking it,” Sincere said. “It will have the same side effects on a person who isn’t even smoking it.”

Whether you know someone who is a user or you are a meth user Sincere said that it is never to late to get help, the user just has to want the help.
