How to Network cont'd ...

Whitney Flynt, a junior communications studies major from Rockwall, said she has already begun networking.

“I am interested in working for the Dallas Cowboys,” Flynt said. “I have a friend who knows of a contact with them, so this has been a great help.”

Flynt said she thinks finding a job today is mostly about whom you know, and Flynt said she plans to continue to work on networking independently.

Kara Stringer, a junior public relations major from San Antonio, said she has utilized Tech’s Career Center to help build her portfolio and resumé.

“Tech has been a great place for me to prepare for the work world,” Stringer said. “The employees at the Career Center were amazing.”

Stringer said she thinks networking and job-searching is an important skill for Tech students to learn and it is better to start as soon as possible.

Austin Hatfield, a junior construction engineering technology major from Snyder, said he has not started job-searching yet because he just changed his major.

But, Hatfield said he has heard great things about the College of Engineering’s career center and career fair.

Hatfield said he feels Tech does an excellent job preparing students for the work world.

So, the next time someone asks that dreaded question, hopefully you will have an answer. Or, at least you will be able to tell them of all the new networking and job-searching skills you have learned about – maybe that will shut them up.

Nonetheless, as we approach graduation, good luck in your search for your future, whatever it may be!
