Media Bias Toward Pit Bulls
Attacks by pitt bulls seem all but uncommon in the media. Often there are reports of pitt bull attacks on children and adults, but it seems to be very rare to hear about a vicious dog bite from a poodle or labrador retreiever.
Sandy Reed, owner of the Lollipop Farm, which is a boarding kennel that keeps unwanted dogs, said that the media is very bias towards pitt bulls giving the public an unfair impression of the breed.
"Pitt bulls are the Brittany Spears of dogs," said Reed.
Reed said the media jumps to report on brutal pitt bull attacks, but the media never finds it necessary to report on bites by other breeds of dogs.
During an interview Reed, gave Texas Tech reporter Brittany White articles from the Animal Farm Foundation Web Site reporting many situations where attacks by dogs other than pitt bulls never hit the news.
The articles also contained stories where attacks were by pitt bulls and each attack made national headlines. Reed explained that all of these examples were proof of the mistaken representation of pitt bulls in the media.
