Flights of Fashion
For the fashion design students at Texas Tech the way people dress carries great meaning; fashion is their calling and the garment industry their future. This spring students from the Apparel Design and Manufacturing Program at Texas Tech will have the opportunity to present their individual pieces to the community with their own fashion show.
“You can expect to see men’s’ wear, evening wear, sports wear’ everything,” said Rachel Anderson, fashion apparel and manufacturing instructor.
The senior fashion show will be held along with an auction and portfolio display begining at 5:30 p.m. on April 27 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
More than a dozen students will display their own collections –the culmination of four years of apparel design classes.
“It’s like the big payoff ,” Anderson said. “The fashion show is their favorite part probably of their whole college career.”
Seniors are pouring hours of hard work into the show said Dru DeBusk, a junior fashion design major.
“The girls are up here just nonstop trying to get things for the show ready,“ DeBusk said. „They want to make sure they have enough garments ready so that people can see what they’ve been doing, and they can see their progress over the past four years.”
The show will be almost entirely student run –even to the models who are students who auditioned for their parts in the show. All that is, except for one model –a dog, who will display a special line.
“It’s going to have a matching ensemble,” Anderson said.
Juniors in the program will also get in on the action by displaying and auctioning handmade bags. Interior design students from the college of human sciences will also display portfolios at the event.
