Burkhart Center Autism Walk
According to www.autismwebsite.com, autism is a severe developmental disorder that begins at birth or within the first two-and-a-half years of life. Most autistic children are perfectly normal in appearance, but can exhibit different and sometimes disturbing behavior from other children.
The Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research, located in the College of Education building, had its second annual Hands for Hope Walk for Autism this past Sunday, April 2nd at the Coronado High School track. The walk raised around $12,000, which almost doubled the amount raised from last years walk.
Several Texas Tech organizations, including many fraternities and sororities and even Raider Red, volunteered their time on Sunday to participate in the walk to help raise the money, but also to help bring happiness to the children that suffer from this disease.
