Plainview: The Eclectic
Town of the Southplains
There’s a certain atmosphere of friendly quirkiness to the city of Plainview. Maybe it’s the historic buildings, with their rusty windows and faded paint. Maybe it’s the small shops, with quaint names like “Antiques by Billie” and “The Eclectic Teapot.” But it’s probably the cows.
The colorful fiberglass statues that decorate homes and businesses alike are a symbol of the character and community of the city of Plainview.
“There are always a ton of things going on in Plainview,” said Eric Turner, Main Street coordinator for Plainview.
This year will be particularly busy for Turner and other Plainview residents, as they prepare to celebrate Plainview’s centennial.

If visitors want something a little out of the ordinary, there’s always the cows.
“It’s part of the push in Plainview,” said Turner. A lot of people have joined in that push. Turner said that businesses and individuals alike have bought and decorated the fiberglass cows. As a result, visiting every cow in the cities “Cattle Drive” can take hours, Turner said.
Some of the most famous cows include the red-headed Ronald McDonald cow, and the
bikini-clad Jack Morris Ford cow.
