As school projects and final exams loom, the stress of daily life can wear out any college student.
One way to put a stop to the stress is to get out of town –but not too far out of town.
West Texas is home to dozens of fun and fascinating communities, many of which are located less than 50 miles outside the Hub City.
Music lovers can enjoy the sounds of Levelland, where college students from South Plains College regularly perform at a variety of restaurants and school venues.
Visitors can also enjoy the unique artwork in the “City of Mosaics,” and visit the 10 murals created by members of the Levelland community.
Bargain hunters can head to Post for Old Mill Trade Days, where approximately 100,000 square feet of the Postex Mill has been converted into an antique and craft mall.
Or, the dramatically inclined can attend plays at the historic Garza Theater, now in it’s 21st season.
Finally, Lubbock citizens can get in on the celebration going on just up I-27, where the city of Plainview is preparing to celebrate their centennial. The series of events commemorating the event include a rodeo, a carnival and of course, the city’s traditional “Red, White and Moo Parade.”
And should a visitor get board, they can spend a couple hours on the “Plainview Cattle Drive,” viewing the colorful fiberglass cows that stand outside businesses and homes throughout the city.
Next time the pressure starts getting to you, take a day and take your time in one of these quaint West Texas towns.
