Park Information

As the Lubbock winds begin to die down and the sun shines a little warmer, community members also begin to pay more attention to local parks and the overall appearance of the Hub city and Texas Tech campus.

According to Lubbock Parks and Recreation, Lubbock has more than 75 parks throughout the community, each unique in size and amenities.

These amenities include basketball and tennis courts, swimming pools, lakes, walking tracks and playground equipment.

Many parks also offer areas that can be rented out for private parties.

According to Lubbock Parks and Recreation, Maxy Park has constructed a new playground, Ambucus, for children of all ages and those children with special needs. The playground will include wheelchair accessible playground equipment.will

According to the Lubbock Parks Guide, parks not only benefit the economy by increasing property values, stabilizing neighborhoods and stimulating economic development, but they also  improve individual health and reduce stress.

According to the guide, the environmental benefits are plant and animal preservation and improved air, water and soil quality.

Not only are people enjoying local parks and playgrounds, but more and more community members are taking steps to improve the appearance and atmosphere of Lubbock.

In an effort to improve the community and the Tech campus, Tech students and staff participate in annual community days and days dedicated to planting.

According to the Center for Campus Life, the annual Tech Lubbock Community Day is a mass cleaning effort for the community.

Scott Gorenc, president of graduate affairs and graduate vice president of student Government Association, said Tech Lubbock Community Day is an event that is organized by the Center for Campus Life.

“This year we’ll be cleaning up areas known as dumping sites and just really trying to make the community look better,” Gorenc said.

Gorenc said the day is a good opportunity to do something good for the community.

“The day allows the students at Tech to thank Lubbock for hosting them over their tenure here,” Gorenc said.
