Lubbock International Airport
The next time you fly out of Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, keep your eyes peeled. New improvements totaling $41 million are underway. Travelers can expect to see improvements at security, new monitors to check the status of their flight and a new road outside the terminal. Some other improvements are taking place behind the scenes too. Director of the Airport and Assistant City Manager James Loomis says the tarmac will be renovated and security checkpoints will be up to code. And even though the average traveler won’t necessarily notice the changes, Loomis says they are necessary for upkeep.
“We need it for maintenance, plain and simple,” Loomis said. “The new security will put Lubbock within code for the national standards.”
But taxpayers don’t need to worry about footing the bill; Loomis said every passenger that goes through Lubbock International will be paying airport improvement fees.
