Welcome to News Central
Few industries have been more impacted by the digital information revolution than the news media. On the one hand, the Internet and the World Wide Web make it possible to reach more people over greater distances than ever before — instantaneously, 24/7. The Web and the Net offer new ways to deliver radio, television, magazine and newspaper content.
On the other hand, the relative ease with which people can publish content online means newspaper and television companies have many new competitors seeking to capture limited advertising dollars. All these are business considerations.
For the working journalist, the promise of larger audiences is tempered by new demands in the workplace. Nearly every news operation has some kind of Web operation, and that news "monster" has to be fed by people who started their careers as print or broadcast journalists.
What we want to do in News Central is to take the skills, training and education you have had during your first three (plus) years at Tech and give you a working taste of some of the workplace challenges and opportunities a converged news environment presents.
Welcome to News Central.
